From Brandon's Wheat City to South Winnipeg
Chilli Chutney Street Kitchen is the Winnipeg chapter of a true Manitoba immigrant entrepreneurial story. Owner and executive chef Laxman Negi trained in culinary arts in New Delhi before settling in Canada, joining Chilli Chutney in Brandon as head chef in 2005 and purchasing the restaurant outright in 2011.
With loyal Winnipeg customers regularly making the 45-minute drive to Brandon, Negi opened the Winnipeg location at 1663 Kenaston Blvd in 2023 — taking over the spacious former Swiss Chalet space in south Winnipeg. His long-time friend and culinary colleague Sarvesh Sahni, who studied alongside him in Delhi, joined as business partner and Winnipeg manager. Together they bring more than 25 years of combined hospitality experience to every plate.
Our Winnipeg kitchen puts a stronger emphasis on authentic Indian street food — the kind you'd find at a busy Indian market — alongside the beloved buffet and à la carte menu that made Brandon's Chilli Chutney a household name. Paneer, naan, chutneys and doughs are made from scratch daily, using authentic Indian spices and herbs.
